Iron – MAN! and Why Are Some Broadcasters So Negative and Pompous?

Get it Done

Do you have an issue with ironing? I don’t mind doing it, it’s just the part where I have to get out the ironing board and the iron, fill the iron with water, plugging it in, getting out the clothes that need ironing, iron the clothes, put it all on hangars and get it back into the closet.

A Tossed Salad of Memories and a Surprise Trip South

More Yesterday Than Today

The beautiful sunset season is upon us in the DC area

I was reading the comments (all 2 of them) from Saturday’s blog post this morning when a Philippine memory related to Auntie Anne’s hit me. I’d think the memory would have been sparked when I was making or eating the pretzels Saturday afternoon. Oh well, who knows what makes the brain work the way it does.

Customer Service With a Smile and a Little JTV Publicity

NOTE: I am doing battle with WordPress this morning. It is simply not cooperating. The only way I could get photos into the post was to link them as a gallery — nothing to aid in breaking up the text in this long post. Hopefully things will be back to “normal” tomorrow.

Run Aroun

I just spent the afternoon in search of what was once a common household item. Well ok, not common in big cities and urban areas perhaps, but back when things were more simple. Slower. Less stressful. Not connected

Alright, I think I better start at the beginning … a very good place to start. When you read you begin with A. B. C. when you sing you begin with … OMG! WTF? This has nothing to do with what I wanted to talk about, but yes, I do believe there were probably plenty of jars of home made, preserved jams, jellies, pickles, sauces and more. Hell, I am quite sure they had Vienna Sausages in the Von Trapp family home! And just how do you think it happened without big canning pots and tongs and packets or bottles of fruit pectin? I’m just askin’!

Canning with Justopia? A Little Kitchen Mishap (or How NOT to) and a Flash Problem in the Middle of the Night!

Peppers Everywhere!

I didn’t spend any time on the network today. I had things to attend to that involved reality, not virtual reality. You know, dealing with taxes, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning. The boring, mundane things of adult life, but they have to be done, so I stayed away from JTV until I returned home and tuned in to see what was going on. And frankly, it was just more of the same. So I headed into the kitchen to see what I could dream up to broadcast for dinner.
Hot Pepper Jelly Breakfast

Home made olive bread toast with a schmear of cream cheese and fresh, hot pepper jelly. DEElicious!

An OMG! a What was I Thinking Moment, a Question, and an “Are You a JTV Maven” Contest Announced!

NOTE: This is going to be a throwback to earlier Living the Justopian Life posts where I muse about a variety of subjects and that takes time, so hunker down, curl up with a blanket or if you are in warmer climes, next to the airconditioner and settle in for a long read…

How Inconsiderate of Me!

Back in the early days, Piglet was a big topic of JTV discussion, here he was helping me do the dishes

Let’s begin with the What was I Thinking Moment, shall we? Upon waking up, stumbling to the computer and opening WordPress to see what the traffic was like overnight, I took another look at last night’s post and realized that right there, right in the middle of a post dedicated to the plight of the hungry I posted two shots of my heaping full plate of dinner! I know that there are some out there that roll their eyes, pound their fists and stomp their feet at some of the dumb arse, non-thinking stuff I do and say, but this one even has me rolling my eyes!

The Competition Just Got Hotter — On the Field and Off

Breaking News!

I received a comment this morning from a reader named Blaine that raises a very good question and this is what it said:

Hi justopia, i was wondering what you think will happen to JTV now Youtube have said they will be offering live video from this year? Do you think JTV will be around and make much money once this happens? I’m not so sure what will happen, in 5 years time we might be thinking Justin who?

Well Blaine, you raise a question that will have those of us that pontificate, speculate or attempt to measure the depreciation rate of JTV scratching our heads in an attempt to figure this out.

My immediate response? JTV and the other live streaming media sites will be up against a force to be reckoned with and it’s time, right now, for all of them to make a full court press and market the hell out of their product offerings if they want to be on the scene once YouTube/Google makes their move.

Remember to continue reading after the break!

Games on JTV and Evolution

Housekeeping: It was brought to my attention (again) that the blog is just too large — that it takes far too long to load the page with all the huge .jpgs, so I have decided to use thumbnails and I am attempting to use the “more” feature as well. What should happen is after the first paragraph a “Continue Reading” link will take you to the rest of the article. I’m hoping this works. And … if you click on an image you’ll get the larger, easier to see photo.
Last night we made Rao’s smooth marinara sauce and pasta with sausage and a wonderful tomato and olive salad
I tuned in during late afternoon today and noticed that the top 2 channels were broadcasting soccer matches and the total live viewers combined equaled 20% of the total viewers across the network.
I am not sure if this is the wave of the JTV future, but it continues to make me wonder. How do these channels rebroadcast these shows. Is it permitted? There are channels that broadcast television series on other nights and no one seems to have a problem with it. I talked about it during the night of the Superbowl. I was confused as to why someone would want to watch live streaming video of a live sports show with terrible resolution and at times choppy sound?
It just doesn’t make sense to me. Why would someone watch a television drama on their computer whenthey could turn on the TV and watch? There may be very logical answers. Someone is at work and does not have television access. Someone lives overseas and does not have the opportunity to watch the Superbowl live, but rather has to wait until the next morning to see it in rerun or like in th case of the Philippines, those of us that were interested in Sunday or Monday night football could watch live with Japanese color and play-by-play.
For some that was good enough, but for real fanatics they wanted their US broadcast as it was happening and at the time there was no such thing as Slingbox so they were out of luck. With JTV they could have had at least the Superbowl delivered via this medium and have been happy, no matter the quality.

Tonight we made Panko and Coconut Shrimp, Soba Noodles with Dashi Broth and Stir Fried Broccoli
So this got me to thinking about how far we’ve evolved in just my lifetime. It was accentuated during the broadcast tonight when some younger viewers were in the room using terms most of us were unfamiliar with — Sketch and Dank to name a couple. Those two words have very familiar definitions, but apparently not the definitions I am familiar with.
After referring to I found that the definitions that were given to us in the chat room were not quite on the mark. Sketch seems to have about the same meaning as I thought — I use the termSketchy and I use it to describe people or things of a dubious nature which is basically how the Urban Dictionary defines the word.
It’s the way it’s used in a sentence — grammatically — that seems to differ. Dank is not close at all to the way they defined it. It’s apparently a term to describe potent weed/marijuana. That is not what our language tutors described to us tonight.
Nevertheless, it just shows me that things are changing. We saw it when I was a kid. The beatnik lexicon took root and words like Cool and Daddio became common, everyday household words. Words we came to expect and some of which we still use today, even if some of it is spelled differently — kewl = cool.
I’ve learned new terms during my 11 month tenure at JTV, like holla and hella and I have caught myself almost using them on more than one occasion out in the real world, but luckily I caught myself before the the words had a chance to escape!I was thinking about it just the other day as a matter of fact, and I have come to the conclusion that this is all just a part of the natural course of evolution. Things change, we move on and we take the new stuff with us and over time it becomes part of the woodwork. It all became very apparent when the words Fax and FedEx became verbs.
