Last Week’s Viewer Count Question Answered, Ron Paul Draws a JTV Crowd Again, and the Swedes Get a Care Package, GGJ Goes Swimming and a First Ever JTV Viewer Survey

NOTE: There’s a lot to get through today, but if you make it to the bottom, you will have a chance to participate in the first ever (that I know of) Justin.tv survey, hosted by none other than — SurveyMonkey.com. Please read on and let me know how you really feel! 🙂

Didn’t Help — for the “Long Term”

img_2497.jpg

Not a very good job plating the Wontons I made last night (posted yesterday), but I had to hurry to get to the party

The viewer count is currently at 240. A week ago it was in the 800’s at this time of day — mid morning — when the German television network broadcast the segment with Justin. We have seen more German speakers in the rooms, but it’s been just one or two at a time. It’s too bad they didn’t take advantage of whatever it was that sparked the interest and build on it. But, it’s really no surprise to me.

And then there’s Ron Paul. Once again his fund-raiser, or pep rally, or gathering of the faithful has drawn what, by JTV standards is a big crowd for a Saturday evening — the viewer count got as high as 228 and his room is hopping. Looks to be mostly supporters, the proud to have donated, and some nay-sayers trying to stir up the pot, but Ron’s faithful are ever-“smiling” and hoping for more press coverage, more eyeballs.

Apparently, presentation didn’t matter — this was all I came home with

What I find interesting is this; when I click on his icon it takes me to a JTV page that displays no other stream icons and no tips but Ron Paul tips. Is it a feature of his own, or did he request that from the fratboys? And why? Is it a matter of security, or is he afraid that people might get a load of what really goes on on the halls of Justin.tv?

Why, just next door is the happy Gentle Giant Jeffy channel broadcasting from the Lazy Bear Weekend Retreat in Guerneville, California. Jeffy seems to be having a good time, although from what the room regs tell me, I have missed all the fun. Apparently in the past few days there has been a lot of fun and frivolity including a lot of laughter on Jeffy’s part, but I’ve missed it all while I explored the real world this week. I’ve tried to find some of it in the archives or in the tips, but no can do. Either the Tips are being removed or it’s simply just not working. Again, not a surprise.

Angincal is a Real Angel for Linus and Emelie Just as Kiwigirl was for Jeffy

Emelie was in heaven! 🙂

Angincal seem to be true to her moniker. While I am not sure that her name means Angel in California, to Linus and Emelie, I think that is what they are thinking today. Angin sent a care package and it arrived today. It was a large box of treats. They were so happy they could not stop thanking Angincal. Again, as we’ve come to expect with Linus and Emilie — their expressions of thanks were genuine. In the package were boxes of Cocoa Pebbles and candy bars galore, all which put smiles of both of their faces. There was a look of lust as they looked through the box.

A chocolate-lover’s paradise for Emelie and Linus

I’m not familiar with this candy bar?

When Jeffy received a wonderful box of home grown tomatoes from Kiwigirl (it WAS Kiwigirl, wasn’t it????) he was thrilled to death as well and very thankful. I haven’t gotten to see him eat more than the few grape tomatoes he popped into his mouth after unwrapping them, but if they were in my hands, this is what I’d have done with them:

  • Sliced tomatoes with basil, fresh packed mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil, salt and pepper with a drizzle of vinegar
  • Grilled slices of olive bread with olive oil, topped with chopped tomatoes, diced onions, fresh cilantro or basil and a squeeze of lemon
  • Gazpacho
  • Marinara sauce — or any tomato-based Italian sauce, for that matter!
  • A ginormous (I love that word — when will it be in the dictionary?) salad with tomatoes as the star
  • I could go on, but I won’t 🙂

What Are Hospital Corners Anyway?

img_2458.jpg

This is what a hospital corner should look like

After Linus put up the new wallpaper on the divider between the bed and the desk, he stripped the bed and put on clean sheets. They use a separate kind of pillow top than many of us have here where the pillow top is part of the mattress construction, but I was giving him a hard time about not making hospital corners. People, including Linus did not know what hospital corners were, and although Martyn put a link into the room in an attempt to inform everyone, that link did nothing to really explain what a hospital corner is.

Having spent 17 years at summer camp, one of the many useful things I learned, along with how to get along with others, how to water-ski, how to be a star archer, how to play a mean game of volley ball, how to make really ugly things with popsicle sticks and glue, how to be a totally independent, needs no one to help me do anything (except maybe change a tire), and more, I learned how to make a perfect hospital corner. Why are they called hospital corners? I don’t know for sure, but I suspect it has to do with ensuring a tight-fitting blanket and sheets in a hospital. In any event, in the short video below, you will see a perfectly turned hospital corner and a bed you could bounce a quarter off of — not that any of us any had any money up at camp during the summer away from home.

Do We HAVE to Talk About Room Moderation — AGAIN?

cannonball.jpg

Jeffy in Mid-air!

Sorry, but I feel compelled to. I’ve got a question. If you are a mod in one room or multiple rooms, and go into a room that you are not “responsible” for, and get kicked and eventually banned, is that ok? Wait! Back up — SHOULD that be ok?

I’ve created a survey to see what we can all learn about our JTV viewing experience. If enough people actually participate — enough to create any stats, I will post those in a future blog entry. Have fun! And don’t hold back. 🙂
