A DEElightful Summer Desert and A Prize Plea!

Ginger and Peach Cream Shortcakes

I could not resist. I had two ripe peaches and two ripe nectarines on the counter and thought I’d better use them before they went beyond ripe, which happens so often. I’d leafed through a Bon Apetit magazine and found this recipe and it was perfect for the fruit I had. I did not have the ginger ale it called for, but I did have some sparkling apple cider and made a quick substitution.

Wow! Was it a great summer treat! The shortcake, or biscuit, was filled with little bits and pieces of crystalized ginger and it was a bit crunchy on the outside, while moist and a bit warm on the inside. It was easy. There was no rolling involved, no fancy pastry work whatsoever. Just some mixing and whipping and voila! Ginger Peach Cream Shortcake!

Yaaay! I’m a Winner!

Flip Video!

iJustine had a contest and I won! She put a graphic up on TastyBlogSnack.com, her website and made entering very easy. You could either subscribe to her on YouTube or join her mailing list or both. I had already subscribed to her on YouTube so I subscribed to her mailing list. I was busy finishing up in the kitchen and by the time I came back to my computer and saw the email that I had won the contest she was getting ready to sign off BlogTV , where she was hosting her chatfest for the night.

An Inconvenient Customer or How Not to Treat the Customer Like a Queen

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

I had a customer experience today that had me fuming as I left the store and drove home. Well actually, I was pissed off well before l left and got in my car for the 2nd time in that one mall visit.

A Leap to Leopard That Didn’t Happen, and An Eye-Opener

Crazy Cats

I guess the pasta was hot enough — can you see the steam coming off of it to the left?

I was excited at the prospect of upgrading from Tiger to Leopard on my not-so-pretty-anymore MacBook. I headed for the Apple store ready to make the leap. I had considered giving up the Mac way of life and purchasing a Windows machine, but if I’ve learned one thing during the past year-plus hanging around JTV and meeting people that are far more experienced and knowledgeable about computers and purchasing them than I am, it’s not to make an impulse buy on something like a computer. I hope that I don’t just drop into a store and purchase a new machine on a whim again. I also know that I should not be making that kind of a purchase right now . It would be an emotional purchase and I’ve done enough of that over the past dozen or so years to know it was time to stop. Oh yeah, and circumstances have played a big role in stopping that behavior too. 😉

Getting in the Spirit and The JTV Anniversary Contest Winner Announcement

Serenity NOW

lifedoc-custom-header-2.jpg
There I was, getting ready to head to the store when I launched Justin.tv and what did I see, but our good friend, the JTV Monkey (I believe his name is … Monkey) in the #1 position on the bar with balloons, streamers and a party hat! So, it looks like I am not the only crazed JTV fan observing the big day, am I? Above is the banner that is now appearing on the Lifedoc channel.

Now, where are those JTVA meetings held anyway? And exactly who or what is the higher power they are talking about when a monkey is the mascot? I have only succeeded in achieving the first step. Alright! I admit I am powerless to the Monkey, but what power can restore me to sanity when a monkey rules? I am so confused!

Another simple dinner tonight – Grilled chicken breast, pomme frites (fried potatoes) and steamed broccoli

I suppose the ball is in my park. I am going to need to gather up the strength to extricate myself from the ties that bind me, keeping me hooked to JTV. So, I’m here, waiting for someone to give me the address for my local JTVA meeting.

Anyone?

Waiting

Now, what you’ve been waiting for … the announcement of the contest winners. I thought the contest was fun. It brought some of you to the blog that had not previously been readers and some of you discovered justopia.com and hopefully will be regular viewers. Not as many people as I expected played in the game, but those of you that did were diligent about your research! In all, there were 7 responses. The only question that was a little hinky was the final question. I thought the answer was clear, but it seems it was quite open for interpretation so, that said, all but one of you got all 7 answers correct. And I have decided to be very generous… since there were 7 respondents and the contest was 7 days I have decided to award all 7 with a prize!! I am just appreciative of the fact that you paid attention, that you took the time and made the effort to read and that you are Justopia Cooks fans! Thank you!

The winners:

  • Kittiebeatz
  • Texgal
  • Tenten
  • KSPoet2007
  • Dezining4U
  • Peekers
  • OddNumber

Congratulations to all!

Not having a real desire for any type of food in particular I threw together an Asian inspired chicken with fried rice meal

For the first time since March 21, 2007, I forgot to load up JTV when I booted up my computer this morning! My usual routine has been to power up the computer, check mail and then head over to JTV. Not today. I didn’t realize for 2 hours. I was shutting down apps before going to get ready to spend the day out in real life when I realized there was no browser tab open for Justin.tv.

Technology Woes

Or should I say WordPress angst. I suspect it’s this little MacBook that could, but tonight just can’t. I have been trying to get in to write a post for a few hours and it’s painfully slow and just keeps timing out on me, so while I am just going to throw my hands up and wave a white flag of surrender for the day. I’ll be back to try again tomorrow with all new photos and recipes from past Justopia.com broadcasts.

I did manage to get to iJustine’s tastyblogsnack.com site a bit earlier and watched all of her Macworld videos.  I have to hand it to her.  She did a very professional job highlighting some of the booths at Macworld.  They were informative, engaging, had the usual iJustine humor and IMHO, she did a great job. Check it out.

Happy Sunday!
