Who is this Dude?
And to protect his privacy, that’s what we shall call him — Dude. He’s my youngest son and he is here for the weekend. So tonight he was my sous chef, and a fine one at that. I had prepped most of our dinner prior to heading to the airport so that when we got home we only had to put the lasagna together, prepare the salad and spread the roasted garlic on the thinly sliced bread with a splash of extra virgin olive oil. We were prepared for a DEElicious dinner!
Inspired by photos I saw on the Smittenkitchen blog, I decided to make my own version and to call them Cuppies — get it? Cup-pies. They are small applie pies made in a muffin pan. They were ok. Not spectacular like my more recent Piefection — Apple Pie.
When dinner was done and the dishes were taken care of, it was time to broadcast. We put together a Pumpkin Cheesecake. It’s Dude’s favorite dessert and I thought it would be nice to have around the house while he’s here. It came out of the oven well after we signed off for the night, but we can tell it’s going to be DEElicious!
The justopia.com regulars, and I, have been anxiously awaiting Dude’s arrival and although we didn’t have much to show in terms of cooking, the group had questions for the young man. Dude’s not as — errr — verbose as I am, and he’s new to this lifecasting thing. It takes a little getting used to, but I’ll bet by Saturday, when we are in the kitchen making a full-on dinner he will be a bit more comfortable.
These Cuppies are easy to make and are nice to serve. I made them because there is no way the two of us were going to make our way through a cheesecake AND an apple pie. This way I can freeze what we don’t eat — which will be most of the dozen little pies.
We have a busy couple of days ahead of us, so I won’t be blogging again until Sunday, but we will be back on Saturday at justopia.com for our regularly scheduled 9pm Eastern broadcast, at which time I plan to be back with photos of our travels to DC and elsewhere.
